Well I did tell you it was the draw, as we pegged the same area after deciding to switch the match from Wraysbury and all the weights came from the same section.

The boys left peg 4 in the bag which put me right in the middle, I had all my fish on the punch feeding 3 loaves in the day, no my name is not Jesus its just the way I fish, Brian Dart stood behind me for 5 minutes and said that I put in more bread in that time than he brings with him, but it seemed to work.

I had some quality Roach with the best fish going 1-4-0. Lyle drew peg 1 and caught all day over to the boats, he had a bit of pike trouble on and off and would have had more fish if it was not for that. He had a lot of smaller Rudd on both the pinkie and punch.

Stuart had a nearly all Roach catch on both the caster and Punch, he was next to Ian who had 100 fish exactly for 7-6-0. The top 3 pegs were a different story, with one out of the 3 weighing in, and an early exit down the Colne for Matt.

This section near the bridge is fishing great after the dredging, you just drop in along the fence and fish the track, or over to the boats, nothing to drastic, just keep the bait dropping in and it seems to bring them on, well worth a visit in the close season.

The usual happened on this match, all the fish were shoaled up in the first 8 pegs with the top 3 coming from there and 2 more weights in the 10 pounds.

Jay caught for most of the match on both chopped worm and punch for an all Roach catch with a few quality Roach on the caster. Malcolms days on the canal in the week seemed to pay off as he had an all Roach catch as well, on the pinkie from the off and he just kept to that bait all day.

Barry was fishing for Fishermans Cabin and had all Roach on the punch. The team event was won by Stuart Turk, Roger Salmon, John Barnes, Richard Lear with there team the only one to weigh in all 4 members. The rest of the pegs fished really hard with some of the boys only getting a bite when they went back for the buffet.

My hard luck bit was my only fish of the day was a Pike which did not count, the same thing happened to Steve Hardy, I was the only one in my team not to catch, cant beat bad luck, but the saving grace was I knew it was just the draw and I proved it on the next match as you will see from the report.

Well thats all the sad bits out about no fish for me, but I have the good bits to write re the money raised for the Childrens Charity, We raised the sum of £3,171-00 which was a great result when you consider the present climate.

I would like to thank all the boys who took part and a special thanks go to the Specimen Group who raised £1,000 of the total on there match in May. Thanks go to Tim and Mike Lomas for organising that event.

Thanks to Barry, Jay, Mike and Tony who stood in as a guest team to help boost the numbers, Jay won, so we wont invite him anymore, Tony and Barry blanked up with me but we had a laugh at least.

My thanks go to Brian Dart, Ian Randall and Martin Harper for doing the pegging and draw. And as always to Derek for sorting out the spread in the Dolphin which again was superb after a hard days fishing, thanks Noel and the team.

But the most thanks go to all who sponsored the boys and myself to fish on the day, THANK YOU.

Again the river proved to be hard work on the day.

Matt drew on the sluice on peg 2 and had 3 Chub for his weight on the stick with bronze maggot, he never had any small fish as before and had to wait a long time between fish.

Martin was on the backwater and had 1 Chub late on in the match to waggler right down the peg.

Derek was the only one drawn on the main river, no Barbel exploits this week but just the 1 Chub also. He lost one early on and that was his only 2 bites, it was enough to give him the points to win the K.O.C.

Bob drew peg 5 and lost 2 good Chub, Mike crimp also lost one on the backwater. They were the only bites had all day, so you can see it was a bit hard with no small fish showing anywhere.

The water had a bit of a funny colour to it, we think it may be a bit of run off after the rain putting a fair bit of salt into the river. If you pop down for a fish in the last couple of weeks of the season can you let me know how you get on.

We pegged this rearranged match on the near section at the bridge as Brian said it seemed that the better stamp of fish were showing along here, he was not wrong.

Derek was the exception as he drew the peg through the gate and had fish for most of the day on both the waggler and pole with maggot and punch. He had skimmers Roach and a few Perch.

Peter was drawn just past the end of the fence and had some nice Roach on both the punch and caster, he had fish over the pound in his weight.

I was next to him and had 3 Roach over the pound and it was topped off with a Roach of 1-15-0 all on the punch,I also lost a Roach that I would put at 2-8-0 to 3-0-0 I thought it was a Chub at first, had it on a while and it spat the hook as I was drawing it over the net, cant beat bad luck.

I must get Ian to check his scales for me to get a PB as mine stands at 1-15-0. It was one of them days when you had to wait a fair while between bites as they were not really having it, I dont think I had a fish in the last hour. Stuart had a Bream of 3 pound for 4th with 6-10-0, again most of his fish were a bigger stamp.

It was a bit of a struggle on the middle section with 2-5-0 being the best weight. Ian Randall only had 4 fish and normally you can hear his clicker going when he puts a fish in the net.

Pete fished as a guest and had not fished the Arm for a while and was just poppng along for a practice as he is fishing in the Charity match, I dont think he was expecting it to fish like this.

Speaking of the Charity match, you can still sponsor me to fish, just send the money in to me to support such a worthwhile cause.

What a grueller is all I can say about this match, with 10 out of 16 not catching.

Derek drew peg 44 and had 1 bite all day, it was a lovely Barbel of 12 pound.

Martin was putting it at 11-15-0 but the scales were jumping a bit so we allowed for an ounce, Derek had it on the feeder with red maggot.

Richard moved on to the sluice and lost 1 chub and thought that was it for the day but another one put in an appearance and it went 4-2-0, again his only bites of the day.

Matt had popped along to his first match and drew on the sluice and had more fish than all of us put together, it was mainly Perch and Dace on the waggler to maggot, we wont invite him again, only joking, Matt done very well on a hard day.

I was in the weir and lost a small Chub and landed a small trout, which does not count, again the only 2 bites all day. Barry, Martin and Ian were the only other 3 who caught, and they only weighed in 5 ounces between them.

Bob was on the grill and on his first trot down thought he was in, as the float dipped and he struck into what he thought was a big chub, it turned out to be a trout of approx 6 pound and it was to long to fit in his landing net, it bumped off as he tried to fit it in.

The other hard luck story goes to Brian Dart, he had a dace in the first five minutes and this was taken by a Pike, he then waited until the last 5 minutes for his next fish again a Dace, he decided to not get his keepnet wet and left it in his landing net, only he forgot about the hole in his landing net and the fish was called Houdini, you guessed it, off it went down the river, like we say. YOU CANT BEAT BAD LUCK.

Just our luck for the wind to drop the night before then have a night of minus 1 and frosty in the morning.

We had the usual thing happen on this venue at present with most of the boys catching a few fish early then it drying up as the day went on. Ian started with some quality Roach on the punch over groundbait, he had most of his fish in this way feeding small balls of crumb.

Then when it dried up for a while he fed joker but they would not take the bloodworm but had the punch again when fed over the top. It gets really frustrating as you know the fish are present but it is just finding what they will feed on.

Brian also had Roach on the punch then switched to close in for Perch over chopped worm, this helped him as he also had the dry spells. I had all Roach on the punch, again nearly all in the first couple of hours, losing a good Bream in the process.

When we all get it right and the fish feed all day there will be some good weights to report, when that is. There was also some good back up weights, but then again some areas that were a real struggle with the fish only coming on the feed late in the day.

I want to put a few other stretches on the fixture list for next season so if you know where we can park for around 7 motors give me ring and let me know.

Well the river certainly suprised us on the Day with Andrew winning from the main river and not the backwater. He had 3 Chub on peg 35 on the waggler with maggot, the fish were just droppimg in and out of the swim and he had to bide his time feeding them for a while to get them confident in having a munch.

Tony drew on peg 56 near the bridge, well thats the one he fished it should have been a bit further up but seeing as it was the xmas match we let him off, again he had 3 Chub on the waggler.

Bob moved in to peg 52 after Dan moved off it and had mainly Roach and Dace, he had to wait a fair while for the fish to move in, but when they did he had some quality Dace to boost his weight. It was a bit of a struggle for the rest of us with the clear conditions.

I was drawn on peg 48 but due to the shoulder still playing up a bit I moved to a swim that I knew had thrown up Chub in the past peg 44, I went on the maggot feeder and had the one fish for 5-14-0. The frustrating area was on the backwater pegs 55 to 53, Steve was on the bridge and had just over the pound as he was pestered by little pike all day as was Keith Arthur on 54 who had 8 ounces, Pepy done Keith by 1 ounce from 53, it was nice to see him with his oppo Tony popping along to the match as they dont normally fish them but said how enjoyable it had been.

Andrew also was on his first match and thanked a few of the boys for tips on how to fish the wagg on the river. I would like to thank Derek and Martin for both sorting out the pegs with a visit to the river on the saturday, and also for arranging the spread in the Dolphin afterwards.

It was a tale of 2 waters on the day with all the weights coming off the back water and the main river not fishing at all. Derek drew dolphin bridge and started like a train with approx 20 roach in the first hour, then all he had in the last 5 hours were 2 Chub one of around 4 pound.

He had the fish on stick float with maggot. Brian was on the elliott bridge and with the water being down and clear it was a bit of a struggle and he had all small fish on the waggler.

Stuart fished similar on peg 52, he may of pipped Brian but had pike trouble for most of the day.

The honest John award goes to John Barnes, he moved to the weir and had a Chub of around 4 pound but realised he was 5 minutes over the time so did not weigh it in, I would have done the same ( honest ).

Derek went and drew on the same peg he was having a bit of a practice on earlier in the week, you cant beat good luck.

He had around 60 fish, mainly on the waggler with a few on the pole, mainly Roach with a few skimmers over the groundbait.

Martin had a few more fish but they were smaller, he also had the usual on this venue at the moment with the fish just turning off for no reason.

The same thing with my peg, I must of had 3 pound of my weight in the first hour and a half. Still it was good weights for most of the lads and it will surely get better as the weather settles.

There was me thinking Richard had forgot what to do if his float went off down the river as he is usually on the carp lake at Harrow.

He went down past the works bridge and had some quality Roach on the stick float with maggot, he only had 25 fish in total. Stuart dropped in where John won the last match and had mainly Perch on the pole with maggot.

Derek was up near the culvert and had some good Dace and Roach on the waggler. I was not on the match due to injury, who said golf was harmless.

A lot of fish were caught early on, then it went dead for long periods, this was very similar to the last match, it may pay to sit it out for the better fish when this keeps happening, if they play the game it should win the match.

We decided to go up past the gate on the day, some who drew in the early pegs had a bit of a struggle as the fish did not seem to be moving around a lot.

I fished mainly the punch over liquidised down the middle, I only got through 2 loaves, thats new for me. I also had a few bonus fish over on the boats to bloodworm or pinkie, I was forced to go over a few times as the pike were spooking the roach once they seemed to shoal up.

I thought I only had around the 5 pound mark and was suprised to see the scales go past 7. Brian was down near the gate and had his fish on both pinkie and punch.

Ian would have beaten me as he had 64 fish up to 12 then only had another 15 after that as it turned right off. Still it was nice to fish the canal at a depth of about 4 to 5 foot.

poor old Kevin had to do some new rigs as his were all to short, oh well you cant beat bad luck.

I was left number 42 in the bag and it was lucky we had a bit of a work party on the Saturday as we cleared all the floating Pennywort from the swim. I had some good Roach and Perch in the first couple of hours on red maggot with stick float, then it was a bit of a struggle with a few fish here and there.

Barry came around for a chat and said why not lay hard on the bottom as I had lost a bigger Perch on the inside, he had not got back to his peg when I gave it a try and luckily had a perch of about a pound which helped me pip John.

John was on the bridge at peg 55, I think he would have beaten me if he never got pestered by a few pike, hooking 3 throughout the match and they carried on snapping at anything that moved. He was on the waggler with red maggot and had mostly Roach and Perch.

Bob drew Dolphin bridge and had a lot of fish but they were a bit smaller than usual from the peg, he had to go right down to the bush for the better fish. The water was very low and clear so it made it a bit hard in some areas.

Derek drew peg 11 and the chub were there to start with then just seemed to vanish as he only hooked one and lost it all day. I would like to thank Malcolm Davis, Bob Hawes, Terry Burgess, Derek and Martin for helping with the work party as it helped open up 5 pegs which were needed for the match.

We may be doing one on the lower Colne before the next K.O.C. so keep your eye on the news page for further details.

This was a bit of a try out as we had a silver fish only match with no Carp counting at all. So you can guess what happened to most of the boys, yep all hooking Carp.

Kevin had nearly all Roach on the caster up in the water, with a bonus Perch of around the 2 pound mark Brian fished similar tactics and so did Ian.

Ian actually landed a few of his Carp, which was no mean feat on light elastic, John Barnes also landed one of about 16 pound.

It was a good day with all the boys having decent Roach, it was just my luck to hook 8 Carp, it took a long time for the swim to settle after losing them, and I only had 1 Carp in the earlier match when they were allowed.

Bob hooked one that very kindly broke his top section, cant beat bad luck. Still it was something new and we may try it again next year.

Ian won the Thames cup with this result as he was 2nd in the first match. He was just past the trees in the reeds and had a steady flow down the middle in about 6 foot of water, he had nearly all Roach with some fish around the 10 ounce mark, he was on the waggler with maggot.

Derek had Roach, Perch and a few little chublets on both the pole and the waggler, Brian fished the same tactics for his catch.

It was a bit of a low turnout with only 6 of us turning up to what is a great little stretch of water, the rest of us all had over 5 pounds, and if it never turned off a little way through I think a few of us would have got near Ians weight.

It was a bit weird, as when we got there it was frost on the ground and 2 hours later we were putting on suncream to protect our delicate little skin, well I did anyway. So keep your eye our for this venue next season and come along, you can get a ticket from me if you fancy a go down there, it is only 35 minutes from Uxbridge.

It was the usual story on the lake with just a few bites here and there. which was frustrating as the fish were showing all over the place.

We were on the return match with Yeading and just as there lake switched off so it seemed did Wraysbury. I had 1 Carp and lost one, Phil from the Yeading Club had the same and lost 2 fish on the day.

Derek had Perch, Roach and believe it or not a few bleak for his weight. There was only 3 others who broke the pound and 2 of them had eels in there catch. It was just a pity it fished so bad as we had been looking forward to the rematch with Lyles boys.

I would like to thank them for there kind words after and for doing a few swim clearences as they did not know where the weed was and kept getting caught up in it. I was really lucky with my fish as that buried itself in the weed and I was pulling back for a crack off with all the weed up the line and when I got it about 8 foot from the bank after 5 minutes the fish was still on, cant beat good luck for a change.

It proved to be a bit tricky on the day with the water running low and clear, not that it bothered me to much I was on hols in Greece.

John had Perch ,Roach and a couple of skimmers on stick float to maggot.

Stuart had a Barbel of 3-8 to make up the bulk of his wieght, he also lost a bigger one, oh the one that got away.

Derek had Roach and Perch on the waggler for his catch.

Martin tells me that Dave Hughes lost a big barbel on the meat at the start which would have won the match, can't beat bad luck.

This venue should be renamed the Kevin and Lee lake, they were 1 and 2 in the last match on here.

Kev sat for a fair while waiting for the bream to show but it seemed they were having an off day so he switched to feeding hemp and caster on the pole at 6 mtrs and fishing caster for some quality roach and nice perch.

Lee stuck with it for the bream and had 4 to 5 pound with a few bits on the pole, I told him he did not have time for a last cast with 3 minutes to go, but he chucked it out anyway and as soon as it hit the bottom the tip shot round and he had a bream of about 3 pound which secured him 2nd spot, shows what I know.

Ian was on the pole most of the day as he was getting the same size fish on the feeder, he was feeding small pellet and maggot on the hook and had mainly roach and perch.

The rest of us had a few skimmers on the feeder and roach on the pole, but after a 13 and a 12 pound weight it went down to 3 or 4 pound around the rest of us.

It was the usual trick with the thames, everyone saying we are fishing it at the right time of year, well that theory went out the window.

It was a real struggle to get the roach going, if you got through the bleak your bait was getting grabbed by little 2 inch gudgeon. Roger went on to the sweetcorn to get the better fish, he had nearly all roach.

Ian managed to feed off the bleak in the last hour and got some roach and perch to make up his weight.

Bob had a few small skimmers in his net and again the rest was small roach and gudgeon, he was the only one all day to hook and get smashed up by a chub.

Some of the swims were 13 foot deep 3 metres out so it was frustrating when you were only getting these tiny fish. I hope we do a bit better on the next one there, has we have been told it is the best time to fish it again, watch this space.

This was one of those days when the lake switched off a bit due to the amount fishing, with only one Carp being caught out of 23 fishing.

Steve had the one Carp in his catch of about 8 pound on the feeder and boilie, the rest was made up of mainly Roach and Rudd on the pole to maggot. Bob had a really nice bag of Roach and Rudd on the waggler to red maggot and he kept them coming for most of the day, which was no mean feat with Richard Smith next to him all day trying to cast in his swim, or straight in front as he put it.

Still Rich was stuck under some trees and was casting like a little girl to miss them, he did manage to be the russian angler ivor crackoff a couple of times when he misjudged it, but we never laughed at him. not a lot anyway.

Ian was on the pole most of the day and had Roach and Rudd with the one Bream of about 5 pound on the flouro maggot. It was a bit of a struggle on a lot of the lake, as I stated it was the most anglers on the lake for a long time.

A few of the Yeading boys drew on good Carp pegs, one of them had 7 Carp on Friday and drew the same peg and never had a bite, Lyle also drew a flier as his boys put it, and only managed to nab a few smaller fish.

It is a very nice lake and I would like to thank Lyle and his boys for making us welcome on the day, I hope we can catch a few when they fish with us at Wraysbury in September.

Carl was a bit along from him and had the 1 Carp also on the method, he was spoilt all day by the misses perched next to him making him tea and sarnies.

Derek was in between them and had the 1 Carp also. It was a bit of a struggle with the fish seeming to be happy just swimming around all day without getting there heads down for a munch, Bob had a good bag of smaller fish on the willows bank on mag and wag which was good to see.

A few of us had some small Rudd, where they came from after the floods is anyones guess. It seems to have picked up over the past couple of weeks as you will see on the fish report page.

It was one of those days where the silver fish were coming out a bit quicker than the usual Carp bags.

Ian fished the paste for some good skimmers and a few proper Bream, also a few carp for good measure on the pellet. Kevin was tight to the island, so tight that the Carp were nearly on the bank getting to his feed, he had nearly all Carp on the long pole.

Brian had a mixed bag of silvers and Carp on the pellet. A lot of the boys had around 20 pound of silvers without to much effort, I had a lot of Carp in front of me for most of the day and only managed to hook one.

Lee had the same problem with the fish crashing around but not feeding properly. It was so frustrating, if the Auction was next week I think most of my gear would be going in it.

Still the revamped Cafe was a good start to the day.

We were on what they call the field bank for this match, it is a venue where you have got to make up your mind how to fish it, as all methods work with the pole for the skimmers, bigger Bream and Carp on the method and waggler for bags of Roach.

Kev went for the feeder approach and had 1 Carp of 15 pound and another of around 10 and the rest was made up of good Bream to 6 pounds, he was on cage feeder with pellet on the hook.

Lee fished the same and had 1 Carp of 13 pound and Bream also, again cage feeder with pellet.

Steve was in the shallow area, which he let us all know before the start was useless, well he managed to have a few small Carp on the pole to caster and some good Roach with a few skimmers also on the caster.

There was some good back up weights, except me, I was in between Kev and Lee with Martin Harper, he had 2-8 and I had a the total weight of 6 ounces and that was a small skimmer which hung it self as a threw my keepnet up the bank.

I was a bit distracted as Lee had those dodgy skiddies on again, I dont think he has washed them since the last time he gave them an airing. We are on the other bank in a later match I will keep my eye out for the skiddies show, hopefully pics may get posted and you can see what I was up against.

Carl was a couple swims along and fished like wise for 3 Carp lost 4, it was nice to see Carl frame as he does not attend all the matches, and his dad Tony came along and had a bream of 5-7 to rub it in for a few of us regulars who blanked.

Derek was in the willows and had the one Bream for his weight. It was a pity it switched off a bit as we were hoping for good weights on the day as the conditions were good, still heres hoping next time they will have finished spawning
